During the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic, we had the opportunity to reconnect with an esteemed colleague who represented a client eager to enhance their newly ordered Sasga 68 yacht. The owner envisioned significant modifications to the flybridge to better align with their lifestyle, but the yacht manufacturer was unable to meet these specific desires. That's when i3 stepped in, ready to leverage our expertise.
Our journey began in 2021 with the redesign of the flybridge furniture. After an extensive and collaborative design phase, where we engaged thoughtfully with the owner to refine the details, we finalized the designs and moved into production. This phase included crafting two sofa coach units, a sink unit, and a BBQ unit. We utilized CNC machined MDF shuttering and loose tooling, ensuring each piece met our high accuracy standards. This method allowed for smooth finishes and minimized additional fairing and painting work.
On another front, our collaboration with Judel Vrolik led to the design and integration of a carbon radar arch and bimini for the Sasga vessel. Our in-house CNC machines were instrumental in creating modular tooling and assembly jigs essential for manufacturing. The bimini, constructed from E-glass foam resin-infused sandwich materials, featured a soft retractable sunroof designed by Bezenzoni, enhancing the yacht's luxury feel.
The M68 project stands as one of our most significant undertakings in our 12-year history. It presented unique challenges, especially with many stakeholders needing to coordinate. We learned valuable lessons about the intricacies involved in ensuring that all components function seamlessly together.
